Hi Everyone,

I am thrilled to announce that the Tapatak Oz Honour Roll for 2024 is now available to view on our website.

Each year we like to tip our hat to the students who have gone the extra mile in their examination preparation, by perfecting not only the technical and rhythmic requirements of the syllabus, but by also crafting their own unique style, introductions, and additional choreography to make the set work their own.

This requires a lot of self-motivation, extra work, creativity, and tenacity!

We also like to give a shout out to all the students who have made huge leaps forward in their tapping. These students are mentioned in our Leaps and Bounds Awards, and showcase those students who may not have yet perfected all the work, but who have made huge strides ahead nonetheless through great effort and time in the studio working hard!
Ultimately giving 100% and achieving the best they can be at this point in their development! A huge achievement that often requires much persistence and determination.

And finally – our Teacher of The Year Award for 2024 was announced earlier this year and went to the wonderful Trudi Bofinger who has been an enthusiastic and dedicated Tapatak Oz Teacher for over a decade now, at The Annette Roselli Dance Academy at the Gold Coast – Queensland.

As I always say – Tapatak Oz is a community endeavour and it takes everyone to play their part to get the results we do in our tapping programme.

The teachers, the students, the parents – they all play a role in bringing the JOY of TAP to the students, and it truly fills me with pride to see what we have all achieved together over these past 17 years!

WOW!

That time has flown by, and the legacy of the programme, is seeing all the students who love tap and all the great teachers and choreographers it has inspired.

So today, I thank you all, for bringing my vision to reality!

I am excited to welcome you all into The Tap Mentor Sessions for 2025! A fabulous two hour session designed to empower, inspire, and enliven your tap teaching skills for 2025 and beyond! Having specialised in teaching tap dance at many of Australia’s most prestigious institutes for the past 35 years, I have a treasure chest of teaching technique and ideas to make your teaching of tap fun, powerful, and effective.

For this who do not know, I was on staff at Brent St, ED5, Ettinghausens, McDonald College and NIDA for many years before writing my own tap dance curriculum Tapatak Oz, as well as choreographing competition routines for studios all over Australia and beyond. And sharing the tips and tricks that got me such great results for decades is my passion. So come and join me this Tuesday JANUARY 21ST for a special 2 hour Zoom dedicated to the joys and strategies for teaching TAP!

3. How to teach technique, cross phrasing, even rhythms, understanding time versus rhythm, canon, style, rhythmic and visual phrasing and the coherence required.

4. How to inspire creativity and choreographic ability in your students.

5. Looking outward to the professional world of tap to keep your tapping current.

6. Clever tricks to improve your choreography for groups and routines utilising different standards in your classes.

7. Working with different abilities in the same classes when you have smallest class sizes.

8. How to inspire and encourage more students to study tap.

9. Teaching techniques used to handle different age groups.

10. The importance of understanding how to teach tap and the specific skills required. [ body, rhythmic, time, vocal stylings, holding tempo etc]

11. Using props to enhance your tap experience.

12. Tap as an entry level genre for your dance school.

13. Tips and tricks for bringing some of your jazz students into the mix to create larger more dynamic performance pieces.

14. Adding tap to your performance repertoire – competitions / festivals / fairs / events!

Hi Everyone,

I am super excited to announce my new training and CPD for tap dance teachers called
The Tap Mentor!

This is a two hour online Zoom Session where I shall share my tips and tricks for teaching tap dance effectively!

And after 35 years specialising in teaching tap, I certainly have a lot to share!

This is suitable for all tap dance teachers, whether you are teaching a syllabus programme of your choice, or creating your own open free tap classes!

The skills and methodologies I have to share cover all styles of tap and are designed to increase your joy of teaching tap and to also inspire passion in your staff and students!
